Misbah-ul-Haq retains ODI and Test squad captaincy till next year's ICC World Cup.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially pronounced the national all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi as captain for the Twenty20 team today while the One-Day International and Test squad captaincy stays with Misbah-ul-Haq.

In the press release today, PCB states that the slot remained vacant after Muhammad Hafeez resigned from T20 captaincy following the ICC World T20 held in Bangladesh earlier this year.

Shahid Afridi was handed over the captaincy in 2009 for the first time replacing Younis Khan. Later he was made captain of the One-Day and Test teams as well. In the wake of his poor form, Afridi stepped back from international cricket in May 2011 but took his decision back in October after a mutual consultation with PCB.

Afridi s first assignment will be a lone Twenty20 game against Australia in Dubai on October 5 followed by two more games against New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates in December.

Afridi has led Pakistan in 19 T20s between 2009-11, losing 11 and winning eight matches. He also captained Pakistan to the semifinals of World Twenty20 in the West Indies in 2010 before losing in the semifinals to Australia.

Shahid Khan Afridi has represented Pakistan in 74 Twenty20 matches scoring 1112 runs including 4 half centuries. He also managed to take 77 wickets through these matches.
