Racing Victoria's international recruiting scout has not given up hope that dual Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Dermot Weld will have a starter in this year's $6.2 million race.
As Racing Victoria general manager Greg Carpenter released the weights for Australia's greatest race, speculation in Ireland grew that the master trainer could have a Cup starter.
Leigh Jordon, RVL's official international scout, said he had spoken to Weld late on Monday night with the trainer conceding that Pale Mimosa could still be a chance to enter quarantine.
Jordon said Weld would not "rule out or rule in" a trip to Australia as he and the mare's connections examined her past two failures.
Pale Mimosa again failed at The Curragh and Weld told Jordon they were mystified by her performance.
"I think they want a few days to digest what's happened at The Curragh last weekend and I think a decision could go either way," Jordon said.
