Guwahati: The news of Priyanka Chopra’s arrival in the city on Monday, almost a week after the release of ‘Mary Kom’, spread cheer among her fans and onlookers who wanted to catch a glimpse of the Bollywood diva.
The excitement was evident on the faces of the residents of Jalukbari when they learnt that the actress would arrive at a hotel close to the airport. But the thrill fizzled out when the actress’s motorcade straightaway entered the hotel, bypassing the crowd outside.
Dhiraj Deka, a resident of the locality and a government employee, skipped office in the second half and stood outside the luxurious hotel that was playing host to Chopra’s brief stopover in the city. “She is very beautiful,” said Deka with a twinkle in his eyes.
“One can’t have a glimpse of a star like Priyanka everyday. Work can wait but not Priyanka. I can tell my colleagues, friends and family that I caught a glimpse of her,” he said.
Jyoti Kumari from Bharalumukh boarded a bus and reached the venue as soon as she got the news of Mary Kom’s visit. “I loved her in ‘Fashion’ and I want her autograph. If I get one, I will treasure it forever. I just adore her,” said Kumari.
But it was the tea stall owner near the hotel who looked the happiest as people thronged his shop to buy water bottles, cigarettes, tobacco and drink tea. “I am happy with today’s business. I must thank Priyanka Chopra,” he said.
There was commotion between media persons and hotel authorities over lack of proper arrangements for them.
