Army excels in 3rd Ladakh Marathon

UDHAMPUR, Sept 15: The 3rd Ladakh Marathon was organized by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council at Leh.
A total of around 3,000 participants from across the world took part in the Marathon.
The aim of the Marathon was to foster national spirit and promote sports and games in Ladakh.
The Marathon had four categories namely Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 kilometers, Full Marathon of 42 kilometers, Half Marathon of 21 kilometers and 7 kilometers run in which maximum School children participated.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Ladakh Marathon is the World’s toughest Marathon held at 3,524 meters (11,562 feet) altitude.
The team of Army Ladakh Scouts participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm.  The soldiers of Ladakh Scouts performed exceptionally well. Rifleman Shabbir Hussain, Rifleman Rigzin Nurboo and Rifleman Tsering Gyatso stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 kilometers respectively. Recruit Shokat Ali and Recruit Fayaz Ali secured 1st and 3rd positions respectively in the Full Marathon of 42 kilometers.
Thupstan Tsewang, Member of Parliament Ladakh, Rigzin Spalbar, Chief Executive Councillor  Leh and Simrandeep Singh, District Commissioner Leh graced the event with their presence.
The Indian Army provided full administrative support to the organizers in smooth conduct of the Marathon.
