How do you stop a zombie invasion?

You take away its funding.

The annual Ottawa Zombie Walk, scheduled for October 5th this year, is in jeopardy because one of its major sponsors has pulled out.

The event invites people to dress up as zombies and take part in a walk through downtown Ottawa. It has become a fun pre-Halloween tradition, and it is also designed to help raise awareness and donations (food, not brains) for the Ottawa Food Bank.

The Zombie Walk has grown like a plague over the years. Last year an estimated 3,500 people took part.

But that also means the event has become more expensive to put on, requiring everything from road closures to crowd control.

“There are many expenses involved to make this event happen,” says organizer Tracey Craig. She says the bill for police services, insurance, and permit fees totals over $5,000.

Organizers have been contacting local businesses for donations, but time is short. So they’ve also started a crowd-funding campaign.  You can visit their account at gofundme.com to find out more.
