Concert promoter Alex Martin says he’s already looking ahead to next year’s Cape Fest after legendary rockers Slash and Aerosmith rocked Sydney Friday evening.

“Everything worked out very well, great crowd, no major hiccups,” says Martin.

He says production managers from Florida and Aerosmith’s technical crew were impressed with the concert site at Open Hearth Park.

“They loved the park, loved the facility, loved the size of it,” says Martin. “They said it was one of the best parks for an outdoor festival that they ever performed at.”

Roughly 15,000 people attended Cape Fest 2014 - the first-ever rock concert of its kind in the Sydney area - and the event generated millions of dollars for the local economy.

“On Friday night, Sydney’s downtown was abuzz with people walking,” says Adrian White of the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce. “The restaurants were active, pizza shops, bars, hotels were full as far away as Baddeck.”

Social media is already buzzing with names of the next big act to take the stage at Open Hearth Park, but Martin isn’t revealing who he has in mind.

“Right now we’re looking at possible dates, whether it will be September again or maybe August,” he says. “Basically, you are constricted to artist availability, so sometimes things have to change, but right now we are still trying to unwind 2014 but we are looking ahead to 2015.”

“I think what it says right now is that we have the facility to entertain big acts and I think the promoters of Aerosmith, the band itself, will know of Sydney now as a place to perform,” says White.
