Andhra Pradesh Cabinet goes paperless

Ministers download agenda on tablets; PMO enquires about e-Cabinet

Hyderabad: In a first in the country, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held an e-Cabinet meeting on Monday at his camp office without any paper. The ministers accessed the Cabinet agenda on laptops and tablet computers.

The e-Cabinet has created a sensation not only among the Cabinet minister, the Prime Minister’s office too made enquiries about it, said a source.

“Today we are conducting an e-Cabinet for the first time, perhaps not only in the country, but in the world,” Mr Naidu said.

He said, hereafter, no more papers will be given to the ministers in the Cabinet.

Even during discussion, one minister wanted to go out and get some paper. Mr Naidu asked him to download it on his tablet computer.

However, the first day has not been smooth for the ministers. Many of them faced problems operating the tablets. The officials helped download the Cabinet agenda on the ministers’ tablets. Officials also briefed the ministers on how to operate tablets.

A majority of ministers cannot operate laptops and tablets. Finance minister Yanamala Rama Krishnudu said initially it is normal to face problem with a new gadget. But, gradually the ministers will operate the gadget easily. One woman minister said she will learn how to operate the tablet from her children. Another said he knew how to operate tablets, but it did not open then. The CM has asked all the ministers to communicate with him through tablets.
