Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI) has announced that it will stop construction activities until the government came up with the new mining policy.
It says the delay in announcing sand policy will ruin lives of hundreds and thousands of families depending directly or indirectly on the construction business including builders and construction workers. In a meeting held in Rajahmundry on Sunday CREDAI AP chapter chairman K. Subbaraju said, “unless the government announces its new mining policy within one week and makes sand available, there is no alternative other than stopping the construction.”
He alleged that sand mafia is dictating the terms in the State and wondered why the government is keeping mum over the issue. He reminded that the sand policy is entirely in the hands of the State government and it should get required necessary clearances if necessary from the Centre. He lamented that the lives of construction workers, lorry drivers and builders have become miserable for the last four months due to non-availability of sand.
“We are paying about Rs.300 in the form of tax per each square feet of sand to the government, but the government is least bothered about us,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the CREDAI, AP Chapter, A. Siva Reddy took strong objection to sudden hiking the cement price from Rs.200 to Rs. 300 per bag. He urged the government to put impetus on construction sector in the wake of bifurcation of the State.
