Her pixie cut, geek glasses and attitude epitomise the spirit of today’s youth. Parvathy, who made her Mollywood debut with Out of Syllabus in 2006, later went into a state of hibernation. Now, she is back with a bang with a number of big banner films, the latest being the Prithviraj-starrer, Ennu Ninte Moideen. Parvathy takes a break from her hectic schedule to talk to Kochi Times about life, movies and more.

Excerpts:You were missing from M-Town for quite some time. Why? After the release of City of God (2011), I was away from the film industry for one and a half years. In fact, I wasn’t excited by the offers coming my way. Then Maryan happened, and Bangalore Days followed. RJ Sarah, the character I played in Bangalore Days, bowled me over completely. Let me be honest, I won’t take up a film unless I feel passionate about the character offered to me.
Is there any similarity between your real life persona and your role in Anjali Menon’s film? It is not just Sarah, but every character I have portrayed so far have influenced me. For me, it is very hard to rate my characters, as each one leaves me something special to hold on to for a lifetime. Anjali Menon gave me an opportunity to understand the character’s innate emotions that has inevitably left me a humble and a far more grateful human being.
You are currently shooting for the romantic film, Ennu Ninte Moideen, in which you are portraying a real life character. How was the experience? It is an amazing experience to portray a real life character on screen. Kanchanamala, the character I am playing in the film, is still alive. I had met her recently and we talked a lot. It is an intense love story and I am just hoping that I will be able to do justice to the character.
Why did you cut your hair? I wanted to liberate myself from the characters I portrayed. I was also looking for freedom amidst my hectic schedule. For movies, I had to curl my hair, smoothen and colour it. I got tired of it all and straight away went and chopped it off. And about my glasses, I have some serious vision problems (laughs)
You have mostly portrayed intense roles? Are you like that in real life as well? I am just a regular girl, who happens to be an actor by profession. But yes, I am leading life as I please. I think I am bit of an introvert, who is content and happy in my own company. Apart from acting, I love travelling and writing.

How did you land a role in Maryan? My character Maari in my Tamil debut Poo in 2008 happened to me like a blessing. I did Bharath Bala’s Maryan after a gap of four years. I got to play the character of Panimalar in the Dhanush-starrer through an audition. I don’t mind going through the process. I believe that as an actress it is our duty to show the director that we are apt for their characters. I recently got an opportunity to act in Uthama Villain, opposite Kamal Haasan.
So what next? Apart from R S Vimal’s Ennu Ninte Moideen I haven’t signed any other movie. But I am listening to stories.
