Jyothi Krishna to act as the visually challenged wife of Dulquer in Njan
Dancer and actress Jyothi Krishna is eagerly awaiting her next film Njan to hit screens, for the character she plays in it is like none other in her career so far. In the film based on T P Rajeevan’s novel, K T N Kottur Ezhuthum Jeevithavum directed by Ranjith, Jyothi plays a visually challenged character named Lakshmikutty.
Interestingly, Ranjith has not watched any film in which Jyothi has previously acted! She says, “I wanted to ask Ranjiettan what made him pick me, but I did not have the courage.
When I read the novel, I thought maybe I would be asked to play the character called Jaanu. Never did I expect him to offer me the role of a visually challenged girl. I play Dulquer’s character Narayanan’s wife; it is a performance-oriented role. Though she is visually challenged, she is the most insightful character in the movie and also gets credit for the same at a juncture from her husband.”
Jyothi did her share of groundwork too for the role. “I used to walk around and have food at home with my eyes closed, just to get a hang of the character. Just before my first shot, I asked Renjiettan to guide me. However, all he said was that I will be able to pull it off. After the shot, everyone seemed impressed. I am thankful to God that while Ranjiettan was quite strict with many, he did not give me too many instructions. It was also wonderful to feel that once action is called out, the Jyothi in me vanished to replace Lakshmikutty.”
Dulquer, who plays her husband in the film, was apparently a pillar of support. “I used to call him Amul Baby,” says Jyothi with a laugh and adds, “All my scenes were with him and I was amazed by his simplicity. Dulquer came across like a family member who takes your suggestions. He also brought out the best in me as an actress.”
Jyothi recently went for a makeover. She explains, “I thought of going for a makeover as I did not want to limit myself to traditional characters. All I have done so far is lose a bit of weight and cut my hair short. There are a few other plans in store too.”
