BJP MP Tarun Vijay has demanded that the house of the great revolutionary poet Chinnaswami Subramanya Bharathi in Varanasi, where he lived during his studies, should be converted into a national monument and preserved so that future generations could get an insight into the life of the great freedom fighter and social reformer who hailed from Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Vijay said he would soon be writing to Minister of Culture Shripad Yesso Naik to declare the house of Bharathi, also known as “Mahakavi Bharathiyar,” as national heritage site and have it properly renovated.

“I would request the government to make permanent arrangements for its upkeep so that the historic place could be properly maintained for the people who visit it round the year,” he told The Hindu . Mr. Vijay said he would also take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi,.
