Bouhanni leads strong French cycling team

France have named a strong team for cycling's world championships, with top sprinter Nacer Bouhanni the headline act.

Top sprinter Nacer Bouhanni will feature in a strong French team for cycling's world championships in Spain later this month.

Bouhanni enjoyed a breakthrough season this year, winning three stages of the Giro d'Italia and claiming two stage wins on the Vuelta.

But the 24-year-old was suspended by his FDJ team earlier this month after he publicly criticised the staff.

He will leave the team at the end of the season.

Bouhanni will compete in the road race in Ponferrada, Spain, on September 28 alongside his FDJ teammate Geoffrey Soupe.

The French team also includes Tour de France runner-up Jean-Christophe Peraud, Romain Bardet, Cyril Gautier, Sylvain Chavanel, Tony Gallopin, Warren Barguil, Kevin Reza and Julian Alaphilippe.

Jerome Coppel and Chavanel will represent France in the time trial.
