INDORE: International Master Akshat Khamparia played with over 50 players simultaneously during Chess Simultaneous Exhibition at Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I) on Sunday evening.
The event was a unique opportunity for over 50 of the brightest minds of IIM-Indore to test their skills against the silver medalist of Commonwealth Chess Championship.
Khamparia played with students and faculty members, who also learnt the tricks of the game from him.
“I chose simultaneous chess match because it is more entertaining and engaging for new players and it also keeps the audiences entertained. I am glad that IIM-Indore was excited to hold this event when we spoke to them about this. This kind of enthusiasm is essential for the game and the players,” said Khamparia, who recently missed his grandmaster title by a whisker at Spanish League.
Akshat added, “It is very important for our state to recognize chess as a sport. Many brilliant players who cannot afford the game have already quit. I realized that sponsorship issues exist in our state more than nearby states like Gujarat and others.” In a chess simultaneous match, the chess boards were laid on the tables and Khamparia moved from player to player to play one move with each player.
The game started at around 5.30 in the evening and lasted for nearly four hours. Chief guest of the event was professor of economics at IIM-Indore Siddhartha K Rastogi.
