The Karumathampatty police arrested C. Rasaiah alias Palanisamy (39) of Harijan Colony in Kaduvettipalayam, on Sunday, for allegedly murdering his neighbour S. Palanisamy (39), a panchayat clerk, on Saturday.

After preliminary inquiry, the police said Palanisamy who lived alone, developed an extramarital relationship with Rasaiah’s wife. “It is learnt that Rasaiah went to the house of Palanisamy on Saturday. An argument broke between them over the affair and Rasaiah stabbed Palanisamy,” the police said.

The victim’s relative S. Ganesan (19), who later went to his house, found the body and informed the police. The body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. As neighbours said that they last saw Rasaiah entering the victim’s house, a search began for him.

A case was registered under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code. Rasaiah was arrested, produced before the judicial magistrate, and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
