BANGALORE: People in distress head for Chikka Madhure to seek the blessings of Lord Shani, but on Sunday the village did not know where it should go in its moment of despair.
Hours earlier, Kanasawadi village, popularly called Chikka Madhure after its Shani Mahatama temple, had lost five its bright youngsters to the Grim Reaper. All the five youngsters were the only sons of their parents.

Two of the dead, Arun, 22, and Darshan, 23, aspired to become police officers and were awaiting the results of the sub-inspectors' selection exam held recently. Another victim, Pawan Raj, 23, was doing MBA in a Bangalore college. Nagesh was in the driver's seat, when death intervened in the form an overhead cable. Like these four, Anjanappa, 24, too was sitting on the engine.
Prakash, Darshan's father and a KSRTC driver, said the boys had left the village in the evening. "We were told by some of the men who were in the tractor that Darshan took the vehicle to one side of the road as he wanted to avoid bumps in the middle of the road."
Bescom claimed it was the fault of the driver, but Prakash said the high-tension wires were hanging low and were ill-maintained, which led to the accident.
Chikka Madhure had just ended the Shravana month before getting into the Ganesha festivities. Shravana is when the devout visit Shani temple in huge numbers.
