No occupancy certificate, no power, says power minister D K Shivakumar

He added that the temporary connection would be provided to under construction buildings

Mangalore: Buildings without occupancy certificate will no longer get power connections in the state. Addressing reporters, Power Minister D K Shivakumar said the department has decided not to provide power supply to buildings that do not have Urban Development license and occupancy certificate.

“This has been conveyed to all Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers in the state. If we find any violation of this kind, the concerned engineer would be held responsible. We stand by our decision and will not budge to any political pressure,” he said. He however added that the temporary connection would be provided to under construction buildings.

The department has also decided to set up two committees to redress power related grievances. “A six member committee headed by the MLA would be setup in every assembly segment. This will redress the problem of the people related to power and bridge the gap between Customers and Engineers. Another six member section level committee will look into pending applications, theft and misuse of power.
