NAGPUR: The Yug Chandak murder case is set to get a twist, with police now planning to name main culprit Rajesh Dhawale’s younger brother, a student of standard XII, as the third accused in the case. It is reliably learnt that the background has already been prepared to name the minor as co-conspirator.
Eight-year-old Yug was kidnapped and murdered on September 1 by his father Dr Mukesh’s former employee Rajesh and his friend Arvind Singh.
Yug was kidnapped from his residence at Wardhaman Nagar and murdered under a nullah at Gomti-Gunthala Road in Khaparkheda. Lakadganj police, who had registered the offence, subsequently took Rajesh and Arvind into custody with the assistance of crime branch.
Police, who will produce Rajesh and Arvind in court on Monday to extend their custody, are expected to seek two more days remand to complete the 14-day quota before the duo is sent to magisterial custody. Senior officials claim that the investigating team would require more time to gather evidence.
The latest development in the case is the revelation that Rajesh’s brother was involved in the murder. Sources from zone office said that DCP Nirmala Devi S has quizzed Rajesh’s minor brother at a length. Apart from the DCP, Lakadganj PI SK Jaiswal too interrogated the minor.
The senior officials have apparent learnt that Rajesh’s minor brother was well aware of the plan hatched to kidnap the dentist’s younger son. He also knew when Rajesh brought Yug home and then went away for an unknown destination. The minor brother did not tell this to the investigating team earlier, and also concealed the facts to shield Rajesh.
The cops are planning to book him too. Police have been allowing him to return home after quizzing, since showing his arrest on record would not allow them further remand custody due to his being a minor.
It is also learnt that Rajesh and Arvind would be produced before the magistrate amid tight security. Police have made every arrangement to ensure no protesters can reach the culprits in the court premises. Many organizations are demanding harsh punishment for the perpetrators of Yug’s murder.
