Artists remember Bapu in paintings

Homage paid to director-painter through remembrance programme
Guntur: Artists and art students of Guntur city paid rich tributes to renowned artist and film director Bapu through their paintings during a remembrance programme here on Sunday. Starting the memorial programme, ARASAM president Penugonda Lakshminarayana said that Bapu gave a brand image to Telugu artists through his cartoons. He said that Bapu, whose real name was Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana, managed to portray varied facets of human life vividly through his cartoons which entertained Telugu people for several decades.
R. Sambasiva Rao, former registrar of Acharya Nagarjuna University, said that Bapu represented Ramayana through his celluloid masterpiece Sri Rama Rajyam and entertained the public through various movies without vulgarity, presenting women in traditional Andhra attire.
Contemporary artist Vinod Chowdary Raparla recalled that Bapu was a legend who gave life to artists, including famous Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor through Vamsa Vruksham. As many as 100 artists and art students displayed their paintings as a tribute to the late film director-cartoonist. People of the city in large numbers viewed the paints. The organising committee presented certificates in memory of Bapu to the best painters.
