Execution stayed, Koli wants to meet family

Koli is also likely to be shifted back to Dasna jail, from where he was brought on September 4.

A new, 7-metre rope — which was specially bought and kept ready at the phansi ghar in Chaudhary Charan Singh district jail, Meerut, since September 6, was taken off the execution frame after the Supreme Court stayed the death penalty of Nithari case convict Surinder Koli till October 29.

Koli is also likely to be shifted back to Dasna jail, from where he was brought on September 4.

“We have not received the copy of the SC decision yet and may get it soon. We will then request the IG (Prisons) in Lucknow to shift him to Dasna where he had been lodged since he was arrested in 2006,” SHM Rizvi, the senior superintendent (Jail), said.

Koli’s family had severed all ties with him after he was accused of raping, killing and then chopping several girls in Nithari.

However, after his mother, Kunti Devi, came from Almora, Uttarakhand, to meet him three day ago, Koli has requested for permission to meet his wife, Shanti Devi, his daughter and his eight-year-old son, who had not been born at the time of his arrest.

Festive offer

“We will not waste time in arranging the meeting with his family, provided they come here to meet him,” Rizvi said.
