Two Manipuri men attacked in Munirka

Timothy, a student representative working with Delhi Police’s wing for Northeast people, alleged the minor boys used abusive language against the Manipuri youth, sparking off an altercation.

“When the Manipuri youth confronted them, they called their elder brother. While one of the Manipuri youth managed to escape with minor bruises, the other was hit by a blunt object. He was bleeding and passersby rushed him to Dayal clinic in Munirka.
Later, on our request, he was taken to a government hospital where his MLC was prepared,” Timothy said.

Police officers working in the NE wing said the number of attacks against Northeast people has increased by 400 per cent since last year. Joint Commissioner of Police (Training), in-charge of the wing, Robin Hibu said about 72 cases of attacks against people from Northeast states were reported last year against 300 cases this year so far. “The NE helpline, 1093, receives about 90 calls daily, of which 10-15 are actionable calls,” he told Newsline.
