Two Manipuri men attacked in Munirka

Police officers working in NE wing of Delhi Police said the number of attacks against NE people has increased by 400 per cent since last year

Two Manipuri youth were attacked on Saturday night in South Delhi after an altercation. One of them, a Delhi University (DU) student, was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a blunt object, police said. Police said the Manipuri youth who were attacked are Lunminlal Haokip and Lepmin Len. Haokip was hospitalised. Len escaped with minor injuries.

Police said the incident was reported around 10.15 pm when the Manipuri youth were sitting near Babulal Chowk in Munirka. “They had a spat with two minor boys — both brothers — who then called their elder brother, who attacked the Manipuri youth. The accused has been arrested and a case registered at Vasant Vihar police station,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Prem Nath said.

Timothy, a student representative working with Delhi Police’s wing for Northeast people, alleged the minor boys used abusive language against the Manipuri youth, sparking off an altercation.

Later, on our request, he was taken to a government hospital where his MLC was prepared,” Timothy said.
