India end medal-less campaign in Wrestling World Championship

On the final day of the competition, three of the Indian wrestlers crashed out in the initial rounds itself.

Indian wrestlers drew a blank in the FILA World Championship as they ended their campaign with a listless show on the final day of the competition with three of them crashing out in the initial rounds of their respective Greco-Roman bouts in Tashkent on Sunday.

Both K K Yadav (Greco-Roman 71kg) and Hardeep Singh (98kg) managed to win their respective qualification bouts but stumbled at the first hurdle of the main competition.

Another Indian in the fray on Sunday, Ravinder Singh also bowed out in the opening round of Greco-Roman 59kg after he went down to Japan’s Kazuma Kuramoto 1-3.

Yadav got the better of Vojtech Jakus of Slovakia 5-0 in the qualifying to enter the main competition but lost to Kazakhstan’s Demeu Zhadrayev 0-4 in the Round of 16.

Hardeep defeated Akira Osaka 3-1 in the qualifying before going down to Estonian Ardo Arusaar 1-3 in the Round of 16.

India had fielded a second-string team in view of the upcoming Asian Games.
