Nagpur: Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) is organizing its 12th convocation on Monday where 1,028 degrees including BTech, BArch, MTech, MSc and PhD will be given away. Former director of the Hyderabad based National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) and former professor at Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore and also one of the top 12 scientists of the country, Prof BL Deekshatulu will be chief guest for the convocation.

Speaking to reporters VNIT director Prof Narendra Chaudhari said this year the first batch of students would be getting their MSc degrees (37). Overall 650 students would be graduating with BTech of BArch degree while 306 students will receive PG degree of MTech. One student each will get the MTech and MArch degrees while 33 will get the PhD degrees.

Besides Vikas and Ashwini, Raj Parikh highest CGPA (chemical engg.), Vipula Junghare (civil engg.), Bhavesh Birla highest CGPA (Comp. science engg), Snehal Raut highest CGPA (electical engg.), Chandan Pande highest CGPA (mining engg.), Abhishek A Bhansali highest CGPA (metallurgical & materials engg.), Prutha K Chiddarwar highest CGPA (architecture) will be awarded institute medals. Apart ,16 MTech and three MSc students will be awarded Academic Excellence prizes for securing highest CGPA in respective branches. More than 35 awards have been sponsored for students who have excelled in various subjects. This year first batch of MSc in chemistry, physics and mathematics will also be awarded with the degrees.
The performance of VNIT students is increasing. Till now this year 60% students have already got placements in most big industries like L&T, TCS, TCE.
OR Jaiswal, dean (academic), PM Padole, dean (faculty welfare), HM Suryawanshi, dean (R&C), SR Sathe, dean (P&D), GP Singh, dean (students’ welfare), RR Yerpude (registrar) and Anupama Kumar associate dean (public relation) also shared information on the occasion.
Some major developments in the institute

Eleven posts of associate deans created.
Four tier faculty recruitment systems created for teaching and non teaching staff as per MHRD rules.
BTech students can now admit for dual degree-MTech/PhD.
Trainee teachers training programme launched for BTech passed students.
Institute has raised Rs30 crore from non MHRD funding from sponsorships of projects and creation of ‘Chairs’ and centres of excellences in different subjects.
Projects collaborations, MoUs with some leading institutions in country as well as foreign universities and institutions and MoUs in region.
