Airport may have a new arrival pick up spot
Nagpur: The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International (DBAI) Airport might have a new arrival pick up spot. The operator of the airport, MIHAN India Limited (MIL) is planning this to ease the congestion of traffic in the main porch of the new terminal building (NTB) of the airport.
Sources at that airport said that the new pick up point will be somewhere near the present VIP parking area.
A covered pathway will be made from the arrival gate at the NTB to this point from where vehicles can pick up the passengers and leave.
For this, the entire lane of the VIP parking up to the small eatery there might be converted to a pick up lane. The VIP and the general parking will be shifted to the next parking lane. “Parking space is not an issue, we have ample of it,” said a senior MIL official.
Following this, the current pick up and drop lane will become just a drop and go lane for the passengers who are going to fly out from Nagpur. Now, as both, arrival and departure gates are parallelly placed with a common pick up and drop lane, the situation becomes chaotic during rush hours.
Confirming the development, senior airport director, P Anil Kumar said, “Indeed we are thinking about a new arrival pick up spot. We are making the plans for it and it will be presented before the board for approval.”
First phase of Haj flights to start from Sept 23
The first phase of Haj flights is scheduled to begin from September 23. While, the confirmed schedule is not yet released by Air India, sources said that the empty flight to carry the first batch of Haj pilgrims of the year will reach Nagpur on September 22. The last flight is said to be on September 26.

According to sources, Air India had submitted a schedule to MIL which was not accepted by the airport operator due to logistical reasons. Reportedly, the airline had asked for three parking spots for 767 aircraft, while the airport is ready to provide two spots.
“We are reconsidering the timetable and will bring about relevant changes. A confirmed schedule is expected to be released by Monday,” said an airline official. The second phase of the Haj flights is expected to being in the first week of November.
