‘Complete Tiruchi-Thanjavur line doubling before Mahamaham’

September 14, 2014 11:55 am | Updated 11:55 am IST - THANJAVUR:

The Member of Parliament of Thanjavur constituency K. Parasuraman on Saturday urged the Southern Railway to renovate platform no. 2 and 3 and build multi-storage building for parking two-wheelers.

He was inspecting the Thanjavur Railway Junction to study the available passenger amenities and infrastructure. He visited all parts of the junction and met a few passengers to solicit their views about the facilities.

Mr. Parasuraman later said that the existing platforms were built in the era of metre gauge rails. They had become very old. Hence, they should be renovated to suit the present day requirements. The subway should be extended up to platform nos. 4 and 5. Similarly, there was a need to build Multi Storaged Building similar to the one in Tiruchi junction to accommodate two-wheelers. The reservation booking office should be located at old railway godown.

Touching upon the proposed scheme of Tiruchi-Thanjavur track doubling, Mr. Parasuraman said he would meet the Railway Board officials to impress upon them to complete the project within the “Mahamaham” festival to be held in 2016. He would try to extend Thirunelveli-Tiruchi intercity express train up to Thanjavur. The Uzhavan Express, which was lying idle from morning to evening, could be operated from Thanjavur to Salem via Tiruchi and Namakkal during the day.
