Parma Shiva Movie Review

Critic's Rating: 3.0/5
A family drama steeped in sentiments with an outdated plot, Parama Shiva directed by Mahesh Babu is old wine in a not-so-new bottle. The movie is about an elder brother’s fight to protect his siblings and keep family prestige intact despite many adversaries. With a cosmetic touch to an age-old family drama, this remake of Tamil movie ‘Samudhiram’ offers nothing new.

The story revolves around three brothers and a sister. Shiva (Ravichandran), son of Parama Shiva, who always stood by family principles, has two younger brothers --- Raghu (Vijaya Raghavendra) and Shankara (Yashas) and sister Swathi (Sharanya). He marries off Swathi to Chandru (Srujan Lokesh), son of Jalagere jamindar (Shankar Ashwath), a rival. He marries Kaveri (Sakshi Shivanand) and his brother Raghu marries Janaki (Rekha). Shiva faces lots of problems from the jamindar who manages to create rift between Raghu and Janaki. Both Chandru and his father harass pregnant Swathi, forcing Shiva to intervene. A lot more drama happens when police come to him in connection with the romance of his brother Shankara. The rest is his struggle to tide over the crisis and keep things in order.

While a number of youngsters are making waves in Sandalwood with a new approach, Mahesh Babu seems to be content with offering an age-old story that viewers have seen many a times. Though the making of the movie is good, it lacks ‘desi touch’ to some extent.

Ravichandran’s stellar performance is the highlight. Vijaya Raghavendra and Yashas are impressive. Sharanya is lively as a girl next door. Music by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Anaji Nagaraj are remarkable.
