“At the time of the alleged incident, the victim was present in her house with her younger sister. Her mother was reportedly with her husband, a labourer, who was admitted in an Allahabad hospital due to illness.

“The mother has alleged that one person from her neighbourhood raped the girl and then administered poison. The post-mortem examination is being conducted to ascertain the cause of death and establish whether the girl was raped,” said Station Officer (Meja) A U Siddiqui. No arrests have been made so far.

Siddiqui added the victim was brought to the hospital by her younger sister. “She is too young and was wary of facing the police. Which is why she left after leaving her sister at the CHC,” he said.

Circle Officer (Meja) Rajbir Singh said: “The possibility of some old contentious issues between the two parties leading to this complaint cannot be ruled out. We are awaiting the post-mortem report to move further.”
