VIT University placement creates record

VIT University placed more than 4,000 of its students in four top companies

Vellore: Reflecting the nation’s economic turnaround, the VIT University on Saturday placed more than 4,000 of its students in four top companies in the first slot of campus recruitment, thus scoring a Limca record for the fourth consecutive year for the maximum job placements among the Indian universities.

Several students got multiple job offers, said a beaming VIT founder-chancellor, Dr G. Viswanathan, while releasing the offer list at the campus here.

He said as many as 5,828 job offers were handed over to all the 4,000-plus students who attended the placements in the first slot featuring four top companies Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro and Accenture.

This was a clear indication of the revival of Indian economy and a boom in the job market that had on a bad track in recent times, the VIT chief said.

“We, at VIT University, have been surpassing our own record in placement numbers every year,” he said.

Elaborating, VIT vice-president Sekar Viswanathan attributed the recruitment numbers to the boom in the economy and said a few students received job offers from all four first-slot companies.

“Four thousand-odd VITians have received 5,828 job offers this year surpassing last year’s record of 3,934 offers,” he said, adding that those who had opted for higher studies did not participate in the campus recruitment.

“Besides, about 2 per cent of our graduates have become entrepreneurs”.The average salary of students this year remained the same as last year’s at Rs 3 lakh for undergraduates and Rs 3.5 lakh for postgraduates. CodeNation, a company that develops enterprise software, has offered Rs 23 lakh per annum to a B.Tech (Computer Science) student.

This year, VIT witnessed more analytics related companies recruiting students with a pay packet of Rs 5 lakh per year. Dream companies, eBay, DeShaw and Flipkart, shared slot-one and recruited 15 students with a salary of over Rs 15 lakh per annum.

VIT University vice-president G.V. Selvam said campus recruitment this year started with M.Tech internship placements on June 17 with Intel recruiting 38 M.Tech students with a stipend of Rs 22,000 per month.
