NAGPUR: Social service branch busted a sex racket at a residential apartments. On Saturday afternoon, SSB team raided the residence of Panchfulabai Bhoyar, 55, at Prakash Nagar, Godhani and rescued two women.
Bhoyar, who used to run the business, has been arrested and handed over to Gittikhadan police. She has been booked under relevant sections of PITA Act.
A team headed by police inspector B M Powar entered the residence after getting a signal by their punter. Police said that the rescued woman are aged and stay in the city. They have been working with Bhoyar for the past two years. Cops told that Bhoyar's husband has passed away and her sons stay separately.
Lightning claims engineering student
Second year engineering student Rakesh Murmu died after he was struck by lighting while he was playing football in the ground near his college premises in MIDC on Saturday evening.
Police said that it was raining and strong winds were blowing when the incident took place. His friend, waiting nearby, saw him collapse with severe burn injuries. The college staff was alerted and he was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but he was declared brought dead by doctors. Murmu belonged to
Jharkhand and was currently staying at a rented flat at Hingna.
A case of accidental death was registered at MIDC police station.
MCOCA against 11 murder accused
On the orders of city police chief K K Pathak, 11 murder accused have been slapped with MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act) charges by Kotwali police on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Nitin Shimle, Abhay Raut, Amol Junghare, Prashant Dhote, Akash Mishra, Akash Tarade, Swapnil Salunkhe, Sachin Roy, Rahul Karlewar, Jitu Gadmale and Rahul Shimle, all in their twenties.
All the accused had brutally stabbed 32-year-old Sumit Tiwari, a resident of Temple Bazaar, Sitabuldi on June 9 and had injured his friend Mohammad Riyaz.
On further investigation, police found that the accused had 32 offences against them like murder, attempt to murder and robbery.
Eye-witnesses threatened
Eye-witnesses of horrifying murder of Suraj Jaiswal at Ganeshpeth bus stand claimed that they received a threatening call from the murderers who are currently lodged in the central jail. Ajni police have registered a case of threatening any person to give false evidence and criminal intimidation by anonymous communication against the alleged murder accused, Anurag Waghmare, Lalit Thakre and Shubham Gajghate.
The complaint was filed by Ajay Bagde, 23, a resident of Bajrang Nagar. Bagde claimed in his police complaint that he and his cousin Akshay Dupare, who is also a main eye-witness in the case, had been receiving threatening calls from the murder accused.
The trio was arrested a few days after they brutally murdered Jaiswal on July 9 and sent to central jail. Bagde told police that he had been receiving calls from July 23 till Saturday morning when he filed the complaint. It was learnt that the calls were made from the jail.
Police are investigating the supply of cell phones to criminals at central jail. Earlier also, a businessman from Ajni had filed a police complaint of getting threatening calls from the jail.
Students held for chain snatching
Two teenagers, including a minor, were held for chain snatching and vehicle thefts in different areas in the city. Both were rounded up by the crime branch police after being tipped off.
The 17-year-old minor has been shifted to remand home while other Nazim Khan, 18, a resident of Namak Ganj, was arrested. Both are twelfth standard students.
Police said that throwing parties and fun made them to take to chain snatching and stealing vehicles. Both have confessed to committing chain snatching in Sitabuldi and other areas. The duo stole scooters and mopeds from Sadar and Tehsil police station areas. They snatched cell phone of colonel Ravindranath Tiwari in Civil Lines.
Police came to know about Khan using expensive cell phone. During investigation, it was found that the teenagers had committed a number of crimes. Khan is still under interrogation to recover stolen material.
