Architects of thumping victory: Modi wave, FYUP rollback

“The whole of last year saw us taking up various issues — whether it be the rollback of FYUP, affordable canteen food or the issue of re-evaluation. Even though everyone told us that no change was possible since FYUP has already been implemented, we continued our struggle against it. With the support of the new government at the Centre, we got it rolled back,” ABVP state secretary Saket Bahuguna said.

But DUSU president Mohit Nagar  said, “The PM supported us. But the credit also goes to our organisation. We went to him and he supported us,” he said.

“Besides undertaking class-to-class campaigns, and reaching out to students, we were also able to effectively mobilise students from the Northeast and women, by highlighting their issues in our manifesto. These groups also voted for us in large numbers,” Nagar said.

The ABVP’s manifesto had a five-point agenda, including “effective working of Northeast cells in all colleges, separate boys’ and girls’ hostels for Northeast students and special programmes on the campus to showcase cultural heritage of the region”.
