Student creates ruckus at AU main gate over I-card issue
Chaos prevailed at the main library gate of Allahabad University when Surya Vir Singh, a BA-III year student, argued with the police force, deployed at the gate, over the issue of presenting his I-card. Heated arguments followed as the student allegedly abused the police personnel.
According to reports, the varsity authorities continued with the strict I-card checking drive and permitted only those students to enter the campus who either possessed a valid I-cards or fee receipts.
Singh, an inmate of Holland hall, tried to enter the campus from the main gate of AU but was stopped by the PAC personnel deployed at the gate. The I-card presented by Singh was of BA part-II because of which he was asked to present the fee receipt which he failed to produce.
When the police refused him entry in the campus, he started abusing and pushing the PAC jawans who too retaliated. Singh then called other students who started agitating at the main gate and even sat on the main road, trying to disrupt the traffic.
On receiving information, the proctorial team arrived on the spot and asked the agitating students to come to the proctor’s office. The students handed to the chief proctor a memorandum asking to take action against the police personnel deployed on the campus.
Chief proctor Prof RK Upadhayay said, "All university students have been told to come with a valid I-card. Those who don’t have the one will have to present this year’s fee receipt”. The students have been advised to get their I-cards updated before September 20 failing which they would not be allowed to enter the campus on presenting even the fee receipt, he added.
