Box office collections: Deepika Padukone rules over Bipasha Basu on Day 1

‘Finding Fanny’ box office collections at Rs 5.1 cr while ‘Creature 3D’ garners Rs 3.24 cr on opening day.

It’s the Bipasha Basu versus Deepika Padukone at the box office this week.

After last week’s release Mary Kom, that is still a knock out on the big screen, this week the audience has a choice, with the release of two starkly different films, Creature 3D, starring sultry Bipasha Basu and Finding Fanny with glorious Deepika Padukone. While the first caters to the horror-thriller genre, the latter appeals to the more discerning audience.

As per the latest reports, ‘Finding Fanny’ box office collections have opened with Rs 5.1 crore. ‘Creature 3D’ collections have been a bit lower at Rs 3.24 crore on the opening day.

While Deepika had four blockbusters last year, Bipasha and director Vikram Bhatt, have teamed up for two earlier blockbusters?Raaz?and?Raaz 3 and they have a fan following.?

So which will the audience have more fun with?Creature?or?Finding Fanny this weekend??

According to trade analyst Amod Mehra, “Fanny?looks too weird.?Creature?definitely has an edge.”?

Also, Finding Fanny?looks too niche for the average moviegoer.?

A distributor from Bihar says, “Dark edgy, wacky comedies are all very well in the metros, and that too for a minuscule audience. If we look beyond Bandra and Colaba in Mumbai, there is a massive audience for Vikram Bhatt’s mythology-inspired supernatural thrillers.”?

Reports suggest that Vikram Bhatt’s Creature 3D has managed to appeal to the masses, performing much better at single screens. On the other hand, Homi Adajania’s Finding Fanny has found more takers at multiplexes.?

Thanks to this segmentation, both films have an equal opportunity to show growth. In fact in metros, Finding Fanny has shown a better rate of advance booking for evening and night shows, while the masses seems to be preferring Creature 3D. While word of mouth will be a deciding factor, both films have to compete with the added competition in terms of screen space since Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom continues its stellar run.

Interestingly, Deepika Padukone has four films three films in Rs 100 crore and one in Rs 200 crore club (Chennai Express – Rs 227.13 crore). But Bipasha Basu is yet to to enter the exclusive club.
