Super League: Hull FC 24-19 Leeds Rhinos

A fantastic second-half comeback by Hull FC saw them beat Leeds Rhinos.

Tony Lineman's try had seemed set to give the hosts a first-half-lead but Carl Ablett's score, along with Kevin Sinfield's conversation and drop goal, gave Leeds a 7-4 interval advantage.

Danny McGuire and Ryan Hall went over after the break as Rhinos looked in control with a 15-point lead.

But Gareth Ellis, Fetuli Talanoa and two tries from Jack Logan inflicted a fifth straight defeat on the Rhinos.

The hosts went ahead when Zak Hardaker lost possession coming away from his own tryline and Lineham ran in unopposed in the right corner, although Jordan Rankin missed the extras.

Hull looked set for a second try as Richard Horne burst through, but great defensive work by Ablett kept the deficit at four.

Ablett then levelled the scores with Leeds' first try coming from a well-worked move, before Sinfield followed that up with a successful conversion and a drop goal on the stroke of half-time to give Leeds a three-point advantage.

Kallum Watkins picked up a loose ball and ran 70 metres to set up McGuire, with Sinfield's kick putting Leeds 13-4 ahead.

Sinfield was also spot on with his kick after Hall barged his way over to score the Rhinos' second try of the second half.

But the hosts fought back in style as Ellis was the first to Kirk Yeaman's grubber kick to score and Ellis then turned provider to set free Talanoa on the line, but Rankin missed both attempts at goal.

Hull FC scored their third try in 10 minutes with Logan going over before Rankin's first successful conversation closed the gap to one point.

He was on the money again when Logan grabbed his second with a sliding try in the corner to complete a remarkable turnaround.

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford:

"It is nice for them to go away - on a small high, but a high at least.

"I'll use Jack Logan as an example in the changing room. We gave him his debut at Wigan. To say he found it difficult would be an understatement.

"He's gone away, knuckled down and played last week against Huddersfield and performed. Tonight he showed real finesse and looks like he's come back a better player for it. Physically we've got to get him right, but he's going to be a player."

Leeds boss Brian McDermott:

"We clearly dropped off too many tackles and just became flimsy defensively.

"You give Hull some credit for that but, at the same time, even Lee Radford would say we dropped off a few tackles and it wasn't through them playing better or doing anything different.

"We have to deal with it. It's not great. I'm not going to dismiss it, it's not what we wanted. It all starts next Saturday."
