Tension prevailed at Hebbalu Koppal in K.R. Nagar where one person was killed and three injured in a group clash on Thursday night.

The victim, Manjunath (24), succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Mysore early on Friday.

The genesis of the clash was traced to a wordy duel and misunderstanding between two groups of people belonging to different castes when the Ganesh utsava celebrations were on and an orchestra was in progress on Wednesday.

Consequent to the wordy duel and a minor clash, police intervened and restored normality.

However, a group of nearly 10 people renewed their feud on Thursday night and attacked Manjunath and his friends who sustained serious injuries.

They were shifted to Mysore where Manjunath died while the condition of three others is said to be critical, but stable.

Senior police officials, including Inspector-General of Police (Southern Range) B.K. Singh, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare and others are camping in the village. Additional forces have been deployed in the village to prevent any fresh outbreak of violence. The situation is said to be tense but under control.
