RAJKOT: Sources said that Saurashtra has so far received 97% of its average annual rainfall as on Thursday. The figure for the state stands at 92%.
Heavy rains continued to lash parts of the region, particularly Surendranagar and Junagadh districts. Thangadh in Surendranagar district received 150mm of rainfall on Wednesday night. In Junagadh district Manavadar received 140mm, Mangrol 153mm, Keshod 70mm, Vanthali 70mm and Junagadh city received 60mm of rainfall.
Water resources department officials said that after the recent spell of rain in their catchment areas 17 dams in the region are overflowing.

The villages located upstream of Hiran (2) dam near Veraval have been alerted as five gates of the dam were opened to release water.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials have issued a heavy rainfall warning for the next three days ending September 14. "Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at many places in Saurashtra, Kutch and Diu during the next three days," said an official. tnn
