Keith Urban Is Forever Yours… Faithfully in Funny New Video
Keith Urban‘s Raise ‘Em Up Tour came to a close on Sunday night, bringing an end not just to the summer-long American trek, but to more than a year’s worth of international shows in support of Urban’s eighth album, Fuse. Like that record — which helped earn the singer four nominations at the upcoming 2014 CMA Awards — the shows were big and boundary-pushing, filled with songs that had as much in common with pop and Eighties rock as modern country music.
It’s fitting, then, that Keith and company chose to cap off the tour by creating a lip-synch video of Journey‘s 1983 hit, “Faithfully,” with the entire road crew — including opening acts Jerrod Niemann and Brett Eldredge, the latter rocking sunglasses and a Dee Snider wig — mouthing along to Steve Perry’s vocal. It’s a tribute to the fans who attended the shows, as well as an inside look at the sheer amount of people it takes to keep this sort of tour afloat. (For the record, Urban’s road crew had 65 members this year — and they all make appearances in the video.)
“From Gilford, NH all the way Marysville, CA… Thanks for ‘Raise’n Em Up” coast to coast!” reads an inscription at the video’s end. In the background, the crew laughs and shakes hands, possibly for the last time ever. Too sweet. We do wish someone in the group had thought to rock a Steve Perry mullet, though.
