J Tadipatri MLA J.C. Prabhakar Reddy has threatened to commit suicide if water was not released to Tadipatri Branch Canal (TBC), a branch canal of Tungabhadra Project High Level Canal (TBPHLC), creating a tense situation along with a swarm of his supporters.

Mr. Reddy who went to the office of Superintendent Engineer of TBPHLC threatened to commit suicide if water was not released to the TBC.

“If you don't release water to TBC, I can not show my face to farmers. I shall rather commit suicide. It will at least save my image with the farmers’, averred Mr. Reddy.

He also threatened to hold a fast-unto-death along with 10,000 people if water was released to Pulivendula Branch canal before releasing water for the TBC.

When asked about the government's decision to launch 'Anna Canteens', he said it would be much better if the mid-day meals programme was implemented in a better fashion even as he said it remained to be seen how organisations like ISKCON would manage such schemes with government help.
