2015 Ducati Multistrada D|air versus Audi A3 Crash Test

Sometimes, cool machines such as the 2015 Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring D|air or an Audi A3 must be sacrificed for the greater good. In this case, it’s for the good of riders. That is, this particular type of good being the lesser evil, minimizing the injuries a rider and or the passenger of a motorcycle are susceptible of sustaining during a crash.
The Multistrada D|air has changed the road safety standards, as it introduced an integrated airbag system for the occupants of the bike, wirelessly connected to the sensor network and the ECU. The electronic brain of the Dainese’s airbag system is so advanced that it can tell between the various forces which act upon the rider and the bike, differentiating between bumpy roads, learning hard into the turns, jumping obstacles and similar scenarios and the actual way an accident takes place.

A reference in the word of rider airbags, the Dainese D|air is capable of completely inflating the airbag contained within the rider’s jacket in around 80 milliseconds. The inflation process starts around 45 milliseconds from the start of the impact, and the air bladders are fully inflated in a matter of 20ms, ready to provide the best protection they can.

The Dainese D|air system adds only 1 kg (2.2lb) to the Ducati, and the only visual detail is a supplemental 3-LED indicator, while the addition of the rider-side equipment is almost negligible. Dainese D|air-equipped riding gear is already available to customers, with various incentives such as free fuel coupons, CASCO insurance or free airbag ”recharge”.
