Emergency services have busy night for Junior Cert celebrations
Junior Cert celebrations kicked off across the country last night.
Emergency services said there were no major incidents recorded – but their resources were stretched as tens of thousands of young revellers came into Dublin’s city centre to celebrate their good results.
Most students went to special underage events at venues across the city centre where no alcohol was served.
However, it appears that some were worse for wear as our pictures show.
One young teenage girl appeared to be in a collapsed state on a pillar near the Central Bank while her male friend tended to her.
A teenage boy looked like he was having a night he would rather forget while with his friends outside The Wright Venue in Swords.
A paramedic was pictured tending to him after placing him on a stretcher for treatment while concerned bystanders looked on.
However, both the emergency services and gardai were today keen to emphasise that most of the Junior Cert celebrants were well behaved.
“It’s always a busy night – but you have to remember that some of the people joining them might be older and not Junior Cert students,” one spokesperson said.
“There were no major incidents – we were busy dealing with alcohol related incidents but nothing major.”
Meanwhile a 15-year-old boy has been discharged from hospital after ambulance staff found him on a street during the celebrations last night.
The schoolboy was found by ambulance staff on D’Olier Street in Dublin 2 last night suffering from symptoms associated with an overdose.
He was found at 9pm and brought to St James’s Hospital where he was placed under observation.
He was discharged from the hospital this morning.
