Candidate in Varanasi offers security deposit of Rs 25,000 in coins for Lok Sabha polls

A candidate arrived in Varanasi to file his nomination with coins worth 25,000 rupees. All the coins were of one rupee denomination. However, officials did not accept the coins. According to news agency PTI, Vaidyaram Gupta from Madhya Pradesh's Datia reached the Varanasi DM's office to file his nomination in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. He offered Rs25,000 in coins as a security deposit. "I have come to Varanasi to collect the nomination form for Lok Sabha elections," he said while speaking to PTI. On being asked what was the purpose of bringing security deposit in coins, he said, "There was no purpose, these are kept at home. We didn't get the paper notes, our old house didn't sell, so we brought these". The last date of filing nomination in Varanasi is May 14
