CUTTACK: To contain the rising dengue cases in the city, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has decided to intensify the drive against the vectorborne disease during Durga Puja.
Sources said door-to-door campaign will be conducted in areas, which reported dengue cases, and temporary health camps set up in each ward. "Though the number of dengue patients in Cuttack is not alarming, Dusshera attracts lakhs of tourists to the city.
So, steps are being taken to contain the spread of the disease," said CMC commissioner G R Das. The awareness drive will start in a day or two, he added.
"The civic body has completed one round of door-to-door campaign. Teams of health officials, anganwadi workers and sanitation workers will visit houses and make people aware of the dos and don'ts. The denizens have been asked to immediately take guests suffering from symptoms of dengue to doctor," Das said.
Till Wednesday, Cuttack reported 55 dengue cases. Das claimed 49 of them contracted the disease from outside the city.
Collector (Cuttack) Nirmal Mishra will be monitoring the drive. Team of health officials will also be deployed in each ward to ensure proper healthcare facilities to the denizens.
The CMC has identified some priority areas like Jagatpur industrial area, Manglabagh, Ranihat and Jobra, which will be covered on a war footing. It will also launch a crackdown on hotels and street vendors, selling stale and inferior quality food. "To meet the rising demand of sweets and snacks during Durga Puja, many hotel owners use low-quality raw materials. Raids will be conducted from next week," said a senior CMC official.
