A looks at the grand Dasara celebrations at the Mysore palace:

    Where: Mysore
    When: September 20 to 4 October, 2014

Bangalore Mysore Palace is well illuminated during Dasara as the Mysore Dasara Festival takes place. There are numerous music and dance performances at the Palace. Mysore Dasara also features a food and film festival, heritage walk, flower show and sightseeing.

This year the festival dates are from September 25 to 4 October. Also it will be the first time that the ceremonial welcome will be conducted at the Aranya Bhavan instead of the Mysore Palace. Last year, the music festival at Mysore Palace scripted a new history when fusion music played by Louis Banks, who is regarded as the godfather of Indian jazz, won the hearts of the audience.

Indian and western music instruments were played for over two hours. The organisers have put in extra effort to have green celebrations this year. The chief guests at this 10 day event will be honoured by saplings, books and art instead of garlands or bouquets. Apart from the many first’s at the event this year, the managing committee has also decided to extend information about various events on an instant messaging subscription service.

In terms of security, the police will use a helicopter to watch crowds during Jamboo Savari (the traditional Dasara procession). So be there to witness a blend of tradition, royalty and great music.
