Coach Patel tells wards not to demoralise opponents by scoring too many goals.

Looking at the diminishing interest in hockey, coach of Our Lady of Dolours and Children Academy, Marzban Patel, has asked his teams to not score too many goals against their opponents in the Under-16 MSSA hockey tournament at MHA. He felt the teams do not turn up for rest of the matches if they suffer humiliating defeats.

Patel gave his wards instructions not to score more than five goals against weaker team. In yesterday’s games, Our Lady of Dolours defeated St Aloysius School 4-1 while Children Academy won against Dominc Savio 5-0.

According to Patel, new teams should be respected. “If a team loses with a huge margin, they get disheartened and do not turn up for their next match,” said Patel.

Aditya Joshi of Children Academy informed mirror that after scoring five goals, the coach asked them not to score any more. “The moment we struck the fifth goal, we were told to practise dribbling and passing. I think sir is keen on supporting the weak teams,” said Joshi.

For Our Lady of Dolours, Bhim Batala and Tikaram Thakula scored a brace each, while Kunal Sharma of Aloysius managed to score a goal. Jay Parmar struck four goals and Jay Agarwal managed one one for Children Academy against Dominc Savio.
