Tough decision: Bopanna

September 10, 2014 11:24 pm | Updated 11:24 pm IST - BANGALORE:

On the day when the All India Tennis Association (AITA) acceded to requests from Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza to give the Asian Games a miss, Bopanna clarified on the reasons for his pull-out.

“It was a tough decision for me,” said Bopanna. “We, as Asian players, look forward to (participating in Asian Games). But it has been a tough year for us. Last year I won in Tokyo (an ATP 500 event), so I have to defend my points there.”

“It was not a question of whether I wanted to represent my country or not. Whenever I have been called, I have put my best foot forward. This is just unfortunate.”
