Regatta set for Zambezi Boat Club

THIS year’s Regatta competition will be held at the Zambezi Boat Club in Livingstone on October 4 under the theme ‘Rowing Towards 50 years of Peace and Stability’.
2014 Regatta consultative and supporting committee coordinator Evans Nyambe said this year’s event would be bigger and unique as teams will be doing boat racing to celebrate Zambia’s 50 years of independence.
In an interview in Livingstone yesterday, Nyambe said about 32 teams of women and men were expected to participate in the competition.
“Since Zambia is celebrating our 50 years independence golden jubilee, we want this year’s Regatta to be bigger in line with our celebrations for independence.
He confirmed teams expected to participate as Zambia Police Service, Zambia Airforce (ZAF), Zambia Army, ZSECO Victoria Falls and Town Offices, Autoworld, Kazungula Youths, Musanza and
Protea Hotel,” Nyambe said.
He said charges were K800 per team of eight persons and two officials and that each team would receive Zambia Breweries t-shirt.
“On October 2, 2014, we shall have a march-past from Mukuni Park to Zambezi Boat Club. All participating teams will march and they will be supported by ZAF brass band,” Nyambe said.
Last year, the theme for the event was Rowing Against Cervical Cancer and Autoworld Rowing Team won the First Prize of the Men’s Category.
Kazungula B team came second while Kazungula A team came third during mthe same Men’s Category.
In the Ladies Category, Western Province came first it was followed by Wapoka and Zambezi Boat Club teams respective.
The first Prize for each of the winning teams which came first in the mMen and Ladies Category was K7, 000.
There were 11 teams which participated in women’s category while 16 participated in the Men’s category.
