New fire station in Nashik by Dec
NASHIK: The fire department will have an additional fire station by December near K K Wagh College on Mumbai-Agra Highway. There are five fire stations at present and the new one is expected to help during emergencies in Adgaon, Mhasrul and Makhmalabad areas located away from the main city.
The new fire station on two acres land near K K Wagh College will cost Rs 6 crore.
Being on the highway, the fire services can be helpful in road disasters as well.
Anil Mahajan, chief of the Nashik Municipal Corporation's fire and emergency department, said that with the rise in the number of buildings, malls, shopping centres and the development in the outskirts of the city, a new fire station was essential. The new fire station will have one fire tender, one emergency van, one water tank and a training centre.
It will not just serve people living there during emergencies but will also be handy during accidents on the highway. This fire station will try to attend the disasters at the river as well," said Mahajan. At present, the fire department has 155 staff and there are 60 vacancies. A proposal has been sent for the requirement of 60 employees to the government and some of the staff would be used for the new fire station.
