Dubai: The UAE cricket team trained at the historic Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) ground in Perth to prepare for their first match against Warriors on Friday (September 12) as part of their preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which will be played in Australia and New Zealand from February 14 to March 29.

Speaking to Gulf News from Perth, Mazhar Khan, the Administrator of the Emirates Cricket Board, said: “The boys had two good days of training at this historic venue. The facilities as well as the weather are excellent.”

Western Australia has a huge cricket culture and is among the strongest teams in Australia. Star player Michael Hussey at 37 is an inspiration for the players in the region. Future stars like The WACA ground has been the home of cricket in Western Australia since 1890’s. For UAE players it will be a great experience to play on this pitch which is regarded as one of the quickest and bounciest in the world. It will also put to test the agility of the UAE team fielders as it has one of the quickest outfield. UAE has been improving their fielding following team coach Aqib Javed’s tactics to improve fitness.

Before departing for Australia, Javed said: “Our camp at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Academy shaped us well. We used all the facilities there which were similar to those in Australia to groom the players for the challenge.”
