India will be a superpower nation in 20 years: Deshpande
MANGALORE: Minister for tourism and higher education, R V Deshpande, said that India will be a superpower country in the world within 20 years. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Prajna’, value orientation programme for college lectures, held at Ramakrishna Math here on Tuesday.
“With large share of young population, India has a bright future. The major share of population in developed countries is occupied by ageing people.
We have a young working force capable of taking India to greater heights. As far as knowledge is concerned, we are the super power and no other country is as strong as ours. In 20 years, India will be a superpower,” he said.
Deshpande emphasized that education with values should be the only solution to all problems.
“The significance of Swami Vivekananda’s visions and ideologies are more relevant today. We need a value-based education from primary schools to higher education. It is pathetictoi that values are deteriorating with the relation between teachers and students becoming more commercial.
In this global village, we have to prepare our young generation to make the nation strong,” Deshpande said and advised teachers to give emphasis on values while teaching. Mangalore University vice-chancellor, K Byrappa, said that there is a need for educating parents too on values. “Every child starts learning values from home. Hence, it is the duty of parents to teach values to their kids. Learning values should start from home,” he said.
He called upon teachers to continue the process of learning even when they teach. “Teachers should teach from the heart, not from the book,” said Byrappa.
