Navsari pounded by heavy rains

SURAT: The Navsari and Jalalpore talukas in Navsari district received heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Navsari town and Jalalpore recorded 172mm and 224mm of rainfall, respectively, in eight hours from 8 am onwards. Gandevi recorded 67mm, Chikhli 41mm and Vasda 49mm of the rainfall in Navsari district during the same period.
There was waterlogging in Juna Thana, station road and Vijalpore road in Navsari town.A large number of people got stranded in the morning hours. Station road near Prakash Talkiz and Navsari-Vejalpore Road going towards Dandi were under knee-deep water. The water began to recede after 2 pm.
District collector Remya Mohan said, "We are keeping a close watch on the situation. There has been no loss of life or property."
Meanwhile, other parts of south Gujarat received moderate rains during the day. Surat city recorded just 7mm and Bardoli in Surat district 29mm of rainfall. Similarly, Vyara in Tapi district received 26mm and Dang district 19mm of rainfall during the period.
