COIMBATORE: A major fire broke out at a plastic manufacturing unit at Muthaiah Nagar near Athupalam here on early Monday.
Fire engulfed the entire unit, including the grinding machines, a goods autorickshaw and two motorcycles. Over five fire tending vehicles doused the fire after rescue personnel struggled for two hours. However, two workers of the unit had a narrow escape and there were no causalities in the accident.
Chennai traders, a plastic manufacturing unit, owned by Abudhakir, 40, from Saramedu and his business partner Sulaiman from Athupalam was gutted after fire broke at on Monday at 1.50am. Residents living nearby informed the fire service station and the owners. Fire rescue personnel came to the spot with five fire tender vehicles. Meanwhile Kuniamuthur police inspector Elango and his team also reached the unit.
"I was informed by neighbours who lived around our shop and I immediately rushed to the spot. Two of our workers who sleep inside the place had barely managed to escape. The cause of the incident is yet to be investigated, But the grinding machines, a goods autorickshaw and two motorcycles have been gutted in the fire accident," said Sulaiman.
Over 25 fire fighters were involved in dousing the fire.
Abudhakir lodged a complaint with Kuniamuthur police and claimed that 40 lakh worth plastic materials were gutted in the mishap. The police registered a case and further investigation is on.
