Hot air balloon season has begun in the Busanga Plains of Zambia’s Kafue National Park. Travelers can now glide in a hot air balloon over the 69,000-acre Busanga Concession, one of the most exclusive hot air ballooning destinations in Africa, which offers complete seclusion and scenery to guests through Wilderness Safaris.
During a hot air balloon safari, guests will have a bird’s eye view of the wildlife, including red lechwe and puku, hippo and buffalo. Kafue is also known for having the most varied antelope viewing in Africa, as well as a population of tree-climbing lions. Following the hot air balloon safari, guests will enjoy a Champagne breakfast in the park’s grassland. Hot air balloon season runs from August until the end of October. Guests who spend three nights or more at Wilderness Safaris’ two camps—Shumba Camp and Busanga Bush Camp—receive a complimentary hot air balloon ride. Rates for the hot air balloon safari for guests staying less than three nights is $450 pp in 2014 and $500 pp in 2015 for August through October. The resorts also offer guided walking safaris and game drives. Both camps are seasonal and open annually from July 1 through Oct. 31.
